For Your Information
Care Management
A multi-disciplinary team will manage your hospital care and create a discharge plan for you. The team will work with you, your family and other members of your healthcare team.
Change
You can get change from the Information Office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or from the Admitting Office.
Chaplaincy
A chaplain is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you or your family would like the chaplain to visit you, please ask your nurse.
Coffee
Free coffee is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for visitors in the family waiting area near the Admitting Office in the Urgent Care area of the Medical Center.
Guest Meals
Guests can buy meals from the Information Office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. On weekends and holidays, guest meals are available at the Admitting Office in the Urgent Care area of the Medical Center.
Hairdresser or barber
You can have hairdresser or barber come right to your hospital room. Ask your nurse to contact the Social Services Department to make arrangements. Patients or family are responsible for paying for the services.
Information Office
The Information Office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is in the hall between the Health Care Center and the Hospital.
Lost and Found
If you lose an article in Pine Medical Center, contact the Information Desk at extension 201. We do not accept responsibility for any loss of personal items, such as clothing, cash, jewelry, glasses, dentures, hearing aids. Please see your nurse for assistance.
Mail
Your mail will be delivered to your bedside six days a week. After you are discharged, mail will be forwarded to the home address listed on your registration forms.
Mail Drop/Stamps
The Activities Department can help with stationary, stamps and mailing needs. Please ask your nurse for details.
Meals
Meals are served around 7:40 a.m., 11:45 a.m. and 5:10 p.m. You can choose what you'd like to eat from menus. The food will be prepared according to the diet ordered by your physician.
If food is brought from outside, your nurse or the dietitian should evaluate it to ensure it meets your diet prescription. If you have questions or you'd like to talk with the dietitian, please ask your nurse.
Mechanical Problems
Please notify the nursing staff immediately if you experience a mechanical problem with beds, lights or any other device in your room.
Newspapers
The weekly editions of the Sandstone, Askov and Pine City papers, as well as the Sunday Duluth News Tribune, are available at your request. There is no charge.
Notary Public
A notary public is available at the Medical Center Monday through Friday at no charge. Arrangements can be made by asking the Health Unit Coordinator.
Pet Visits
Service animals are always allowed in the hospital and under certain circumstances, pets are allowed to visit, too. If you wish a pet visit, please talk with a nurse.
The visit must be approved by your physician and the nurse manager, and must be conducted under nursing supervision. An animal must be secured on a leash and supervised by an adult. If possible, the visit should take place in a private and secure area to ensure that the pet does not jeopardize the health, safety, comfort, treatment or well-being of others.
Social Services
A social worker can help you and your family with support, counseling and post-discharge living information. Please speak with the nurse on duty if you would like to meet with the social worker, who is available Monday through Friday.
Support Services
We offer a variety of support services, including a chaplaincy program and Women's Auxiliary, that enhance the time our patients and residents spend at Pine Medical Center and Pine Health Care Center. For Support Services, contact the Community Outreach Director at (320) 245-5690.
Swing Bed Service/Transitional Care
Sometimes patients are not quite ready to go home after a stay in the hospital, but long-term care services don't fill their needs. Our Swing Bed Care/Transitional Care can help. To see if you qualify, please contact the social worker at (320) 245-5612 or dial 212 on your room's phone.
Telephones
Telephones are available in all patient rooms. Families can use a phone in the family waiting room near the Admitting Office.
For local calls: Dial 88 to get a dial tone for an outside call.
For long-distance calls: Dial 88 plus 0 to get an outside operator. You must pay the charges by using your own calling card or credit card.
A pay phone is located in the lobby by the Information Office.
If you are hearing-impaired, arrangements can be made for a TTY telephone to be placed in your room. Also, free sign language and oral interpreters and other services are available to deaf and hard-of-hearing persons. Ask us your nurse for assistance or contact Natalie Stanley, ASL Interpreter Program Supervisor in Duluth, at (218) 786-4101 or (218) 786-4857 (TTY) from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. After hours, or on weekends, call the St. Mary's Medical Center switchboard at (218) 786-4000 for help.

Tobacco
In the interest of the health and safety of patients, visitors and employees, tobacco use is not allowed on or in any of our properties. Tobacco product use is also prohibited on public property within 60 feet of our properties in Sandstone in accordance with city ordinance.
Vending Machines
The employee dining area and Urgent Care lobby have soda and snack machines for your convenience.
Visitors
Visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. or at the nurse's discretion. Patients may designate who is permitted to visit during their hospital stay.
Parents and grandparents visit pediatric patients any time. All other visitors are welcome during regular visiting hours.
Visitors are responsible for small children they bring with them.
While care is being given to a patient, visitors will be asked to step out of the room to provide
patient privacy.
The Medical Center's lobby door is locked at 11:30 p.m. Call boxes are available at both entrances to the facility.
